It is essentially a busbar—an electrical conductor that collects and distributes power from incoming feeders to outgoing circuits—integrated with protection relays and alarm mechanisms. Its primary purpose is to detect faults such as short circuits or overloads and immediately alert operators while enabling rapid isolation of the affected section to prevent damage and maintain system reliability .How It WorksThe protective system relies on current transformers (CTs) installed on both incoming and outgoing feeders of the busbar. These CTs monitor the current flow and provide scaled signals to protection relays. The relays continuously compare the sum of incoming and outgoing currents based on Kirchhoff's Current Law. If a fault occurs on the busbar, the outgoing current no longer matches the incoming current, triggering the relay . The alarm function is activated simultaneously to notify operators of the fault condition.
