The Democratic Republic of the Congo has partnered with China's Genew Technologies to build a fiber-optic route along the Congo River worth US$1. On June 25, 2026, the government, through the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Genew. The project consists in the construction of 10,000 km of fibre-optic cables as part of a regional backbone in 5 countries, including backbone as well as metro networks.
